Although I'm no longer a practicing Christian, still remember what was taught to me by the Church in school and in church. Back then, we were called 'Christians' because we followed Christ and his teachings, like his beautiful Sermon on the Mount, where he taught The Beatitudes:
Matthew 5:3-12 - The BeatitudesJesus also taught his followers to love thy brother and to feed the hungry, minister to the sick and shelter the homeless.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Boy is that so old school. Not nearly enough red meat for today's Christians, who clap and cheer at the thought of WW III bringing on the Apocalypse. Where hundreds of millions, if not billions of humans roast in the radioactive fires of thermo-nuclear hell, so those Christians can get Ruptured up to Heaven. Except there is NO mention of the Rapture in the Bible. Millions/Billions more will die a slow, agonizing death from radiation poisoning and starvation. And a nuclear Armageddon would completely decimate all animal, insect and plant life on Earth.
Would a peacemaker or someone pure in heart get enthusiastic and clap for that kind of planet-wide extinction?
Those Christians at a Florida rally that salivate at the thought of WW III did....
Florida rally cheers when Republican predicts Trump’s Jerusalem embassy decision may usher in Armageddon
And there is NOTHING in Christ's teachings that frauds like John Haggee offer his sheep, the LIE where he twists the OT into his version of reality about supporting Israel. But the OT verse is directed to Abraham, not the Jews of Israel. Since Abraham is recognized and revered as a prophet by Muslims, these so-called Christians are on shaky ground.
One question for these Christians: Since the Sixth Commandment says ""Thou shalt not kill," aren't you committing blasphemy by cheering on for mass murder?
UPDATE: Just found this on another forum...pretty appropo for the modern day American Christian.
